What You'll Learn
On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills, knowledge and competency to complete a range of welding tasks as outlined below to industry standards and in line with Health and Safety requirements.
On completion of the MMA Fillet Multi-Run 6mm Plate – CS13 module, students will be able to:
- Identify the safety hazards associated with welding and state the safety procedures to be followed when working with arc welding equipment.
- Describe the process and identify the equipment, parts and their function.
- Set up the M.M.A. equipment including cables, polarity, current and electrodes.
- Strike, maintain and break an arc to Industrial Standards EN9606
- Weld stringer beads on mild steel flat plate to Industrial Standards EN9606
- Weld lap joint in position 2F to Industrial Standards EN9606
- Weld Tee joints in 2F position to Industrial Standards EN9606
- Weld Tee joint in 3F position to Industrial Standards EN9606
- Weld Tee joint in the 4F position to Industrial Standards EN9606
- Weld outside corner joint in the 3F position to Industrial Standards EN9606
On successful completion of this course, the industry standard EN9606- CS13 Certification will be issued from the Approved EN Certifying Body.

Progression / Career
After successfully completing this module, you can pursue roles such as:
- Welder/Fabricator
- Workshop Assistant
- General Operative in Metalwork or Manufacturing
These roles often involve working in construction, engineering, or manufacturing environments where basic to intermediate welding skills are required.
You can work towards full EN9606 certification, which is highly valued across Europe and internationally, you could pursue advanced welding and qualifications through further training and experience, progressing to TIG or MIG Welding specialisations and/or Coded Pipe Welding.
Entry Requirements
- Students need to have Junior Certificate or equivalent to succeed in this course. You can show this through relevant life and work experience as no formal qualifications are required for entry to this course. Mature students welcome.
- Students must have a motivation to learn, an interest in welding and the ability to gain the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course. Industry experience is desirable but not essential/
- According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), non-native English speakers need a B2 level in writing, reading, listening, and speaking.

Please note: safety wear is required, flame retardant overalls and safety boots which you will have to supply under the guidance of your tutor.
You may be eligible for reduced course fees or a fee waiver (i.e. no cost).

Who can apply for Donegal College courses?
Our courses are open to school leavers, lifelong learners, job seekers, employees, and employers looking to upskill or reskill.
How do I apply for a course?
You can make your applications for full-time and part-time courses online; you can start the process here on the Donegal College website. Click ‘APPLY‘ on the course of your choice; this redirects you to Fetchcourses.ie, where your application will be processed using the FETCH Courses website and system.
If you haven’t signed up for a FETCH account, you’ll be required to do so first; this is a one-time setup.
Are the Donegal College courses accredited?
Yes. Many of our courses lead to nationally recognised qualifications on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), typically Levels 4–6, as well as awards from ILM, City & Guilds, and other industry-recognised bodies.
Where do the courses take place?
Courses are delivered across Donegal at one of our 19 Donegal College campuses, certain courses are delivered in community venues in your local area, various courses are delivered online or through blended learning, and training can be offered on-site at your business, depending on the course.
Can I apply for an Apprenticeship?
