Bus Driving with Tourism

What You'll Learn
The course is a mix of classroom based learning and driving skills. After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Drive a Bus Safely and Professionally: Learn how to drive large passenger vehicles (LPSVs) confidently, following road safety laws and vehicle guidelines.
- Earn Your Driver CPC: Develop eco-driving habits, reduce fuel use, improve safety, and deliver excellent customer service. Understand driver hours and how to avoid risky driving.
- Use a Digital Tachograph: Get to grips with EU rules, driver cards, and how to read and manage tachograph data correctly.
- Customer Service: Learn how to interact with a range of service users, such as sharing local information, using ramps, lifts, and wheelchair equipment.
This course involves four weeks of work experience.
Applicants will be interviewed and will be expected to participate in a CAB test as part of the interview process.
On successful completion of this course, you will receive the Road Safety Authority Driving Licence Category D and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence and the Chartered Institute of Logisitics and Transport – Digital Tachograph.
On successful completion of relevant modules within this course, you will receive Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Level 4 Certificate in Tourism Visitor Care.

Progression / Career
Graduates of this course are equipped with the professional skills, certifications, and practical experience required to pursue employment as licensed bus drivers in the public and private transport sectors.
With specialised training in customer service, safety procedures, and accessibility support for elderly and disabled passengers, they are well-prepared to meet the operational and regulatory standards of the industry.
Entry Requirements
- Junior Certificate standard or its equivalent required.
- A good standard of written and spoken English is essential in order to successfully complete this course and the associated assessments. The ability to correctly interpret and respond to written English instruction is essential for both the assessment and tuition elements of this course.
- Applicants should possess good manual dexterity and numeracy skills.
- Applicants should demonstrate strong spatial awareness and good hand-eye coordination.
- Class B Category Driving Experience and Class D Learner Permit are required for entry to this course.

Who can apply for Donegal College courses?
Our courses are open to school leavers, lifelong learners, job seekers, employees, and employers looking to upskill or reskill.
How do I apply for a course?
You can make your applications for full-time and part-time courses online; you can start the process here on the Donegal College website. Click ‘APPLY‘ on the course of your choice; this redirects you to Fetchcourses.ie, where your application will be processed using the FETCH Courses website and system.
If you haven’t signed up for a FETCH account, you’ll be required to do so first; this is a one-time setup.
Are the Donegal College courses accredited?
Yes. Many of our courses lead to nationally recognised qualifications on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), typically Levels 4–6, as well as awards from ILM, City & Guilds, and other industry-recognised bodies.
Where do the courses take place?
Courses are delivered across Donegal at one of our 19 Donegal College campuses, certain courses are delivered in community venues in your local area, various courses are delivered online or through blended learning, and training can be offered on-site at your business, depending on the course.
Can I apply for an Apprenticeship?
